Our Impact | Testimonials

Kitsap Credit Union has a long standing working relationship with Cares of Washington – three of their employees, staffed through Cares, have been working at the financial institution for more than fourteen years. Ms Tucker herself has been involved with Cares for about seven years, “Cares has great client support services. Their case workers are very proactive in identifying new employment opportunities for their clients. As an example, Cares staff recently worked with KCU management to research where their clients’ capabilities would be a good match for other roles within our company.”
Kitsap Credit Union is a very community-oriented organization. We help people live productive, fulfilling lives. Cares of Washington is an apt partner as they contribute to our values. Our mission is to empower employees in every opportunity, to make a positive and lasting difference and to build a stronger community.” Ms Tucker recommends Cares of Washington to other employers, as they have consistently provided outstanding client support services. In fact, Ms Tucker is aware of some employers having worked with Cares for 20 to 30 years. “Cares (case workers) are involved, responsible and responsive. They try very hard to make it work for both their clients and employers such as Kitsap Credit Union.
— Sharon Tucker | Human Resources Manager, Kitsap Credit Union
I have met some pretty inspiring people in my short time at Cares. People who never give up despite the obstacles they face, people who are committed to a trade that many may find mundane, but for them, it is the sun on a cloudy day, folks who can make you laugh without saying a thing.  I have met a writer who cannot use a pencil or type on a computer but still managed to write and publish two books with a third in progress. I have met employers who are just as passionate about my work as I am.  And I have met you, the faceless name in a crowd pushing your way through the side-glances and avoided contact; you are my next client, the voice I am excited to hear resounding above the crowds! I hope these words speak to you as the mission at Cares has spoken to me. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful organization!

Who We Serve

Because our services meet the unique needs of each client, outcomes are highly individualized, but broadly we expect our participants will:

  • Become employed. In years past, many of our under and unemployed clients were placed in jobs.
  • Earn higher wages and increase their income. Participants also obtained employer benefits such as health insurance and paid vacation time.

  • Establish financial security. Under Cares’ guidance, our clients take steps to ensure their financial security from opening bank accounts to creating plans for debt reduction and saving.

  • Achieve their educational goals. Cares partners with community colleges and training centers to ensure that our clients have the resources they need to get training to advance in their careers and in their lives.

Our Value Proposition

By empowering individuals with disabilities to find and retain jobs, Cares’ clients benefit from increased independence, growing confidence in their abilities to provide and care for themselves, improved quality of life and the potential to contribute back to the community in which they live.
